Fall break trips are shorter service trips held throughout the Fall semester. Check out the trips below and click on the links to register!
Bellair Farm
When: Saturday, 8/28
Type of Service: Environmental
Cost: Free
Description: On Saturday, 8/28, we will be taking our first Saturday Service Day trip of the semester to Bellair Farm to assist them in some of the tasks they have designated us to engage in. We will be cleaning up some fields, possibly harvesting, picking up eggs from the coop, and having an overall meaningful and enriching experience. Bellair Farm has a service learning component in their volunteer program, so we will have the chance to learn more about the farm and have conversations with those who work there! This will be a FANTASTIC opportunity to meet 9 other students as well as engage in service learning around Charlottesville.
Logistics: We will meet near Central Grounds at 8:30 on Saturday, 8/28 and drive over to the farm to be there for our day of service, which starts at 9:00. The day ends at 3:00 and we will be back on Grounds by 3:30. Snacks are provided.

The Habitat Store
When: Saturday, 9/25
Type of Service: Human Services
Cost: Free
Description: On Saturday, 9/25, we will be taking a Saturday Service Day trip to the Habitat Store to assist them in some of their volunteer dependent projects. We are open to helping out the store with whatever they need help with at the time. This will be an amazing opportunity to meet a few new students as well as engage in service learning around Charlottesville.
Logistics:
There are two time slot options, which will allow for 5 volunteers to participate at once.
1. 10:00-12:00 - We will leave Central Grounds at 9:30 and be back before 12:30.
2. 12:00-2:00 - We will leave Central Grounds at 11:30 and be back before 2:30.

Habitat for Humanity
When: Saturday, 10/9
Type of Service: Housing
Cost: Free
Description: On the Saturday of Fall Break, we have the opportunity to work on a Habitat build. We will be doing whatever it is that the organization has in store for us! Throughout the day and afterwards, we will have the chance to take some intentional time to engage in service learning conversations. Working on a Habitat build is a rewarding experience and would be a great way to spend your fall break, getting to meet new people, serve the community, and learn something new through reflection and conversation!
Logistics: We will meet near Central Grounds at 8:30 on Saturday, 10/9 (fall break) and drive over to the farm to be there for our day of service, which starts at 9:00. The day ends at 3:00 and we will be back on Grounds by 3:30. Snacks are provided.

Camp Holiday Trails
When: Saturday, 10/11
Type of Service: Environmental
Cost: Free
Description: Our last service day opportunity for the fall semester is going to be on Monday, 10/11 (Fall Break) at Camp Holiday Trails, so you know it will be just as great of an experience as all the rest! Here we will be cleaning up some of the outdoor spaces and helping the staff with whatever other projects they need us to help out with.
Logistics: We will meet near Central Grounds at 7:30 on Monday, 10/11 (Fall Break) and drive over to the site to be there for our day of service, which starts at 8:00. The day ends at noon and we will be back on Grounds around 12:30.

The Haven
When: Friday, 10/29
Type of Service: Human Services
Cost: Free
Description: On Friday, 10/29, we will be taking a trip to The Haven, a day shelter in Charlottesville that is open to anyone. Each month they need help cleaning the building, which is what we will be helping out with! This will be a great opportunity to learn more about homelessness in Charlottesville and the available resources.
Logistics:
When: Friday, 10/29 from 1:30-5:30
Where: Meet near the chapel at 1:30 and we will drive there together
What: monthly clean-up at The Haven
Why: Because getting out into the community is what we do and this is a great way to become more exposed to local, cville organizations

PACEM
When: Saturday, 11/6
Type of Service: Human Services
Cost: Free
Description: On Saturday, 11/6, we will be taking a trip to PACEM, an organization that helps to provide shelter, food, and companionship to those experiencing homelessness in Charlottesville. They operate throughout the winter months, and we will be helping to set up one of their first congregate housing sites. This trip will also include a service learning component that is focused on public policy!
Logistics:
When: Saturday, 11/6
Where: We will be leaving from central Grounds at 8:30 and will be back later that afternoon.

Rake-A-Thon
When: Saturday, 11/20 - Register before Nov. 1st
Type of Service: Housing
Cost: Free
Description: Rake-a-thon is an annual event held by Habitat for Humanity of the Charlottesville area. Volunteers rake the yards of community members who are willing to make donations to Habitat in exchange for their yard being raked. The proceeds go towards helping Habitat build affordable houses so that everyone in Charlottesville has a place to call home. Specifically, the proceeds this year will go towards building the first homes in Village One in Southwood.
Logistics:
When: Nov. 20th from 9 am - 1 pm
Where: We will be given a home address in Charlottesville closer to the date
What: Raking leaves
Why: To support Habitat in their vision for a Greater Charlottesville community where everyone can find a decent place to live!
